India has finally overcome the Asia cup hurdle, winning the title after 15 years by routing hosts Sri Lanka by 81 runs.
The credit largely goes to the Indian bowling attack especially the seamers, who mercilessly destroyed the Sri Lankan batting.
India elected to bat after winning the toss and managed build up a convincing total of 268 runs, thanks to the loopholes in the rival’s fielding.
Dinesh Karthik emerged the top scorer with 66 runs, while Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Suresh Raina also pulled up impressive displays.
The Sri Lankan bowlers could not do much in restricting the run flow unlike the previous matches. However, it was the bowlers who nailed Sri Lanka with their accurate and deadly balls.
Ashish Nehra proved to be the most dangerous as he ended up 4/40 in his account. Zaheer Khan claimed two, while Praveen Kumar picked up one. Spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Harbhajan too did a spectacular job in dismissing the Lankans short of the target.
The hosts seemed to struggle with the bat as Indian bowlers found their rhythm and stopped them from scoring.
Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Angelo Mathews, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga, all the star batsmen of Sri lanka were made to return without making any substantial contribution.
Only Kandamby and Chamara Kapugedera offered some resistance and that too in the later overs, but the Indians managed to break the partnership before finally bringing down the Lankan Innings.
