After West Indies closed the day at 131/3 at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica against Team India it was just a matter of time for Indian team to register a memorable win in Caribbean. West Indies needed middle order to lift its game in order to fill some spark in the team.
With only Chanderpaul left in the middle as an experienced batsman at the end of day 3 West Indies was in dire straights. West Indies had already lost Ramnaresh Sarwan cheaply while chasing the target of 325 runs to win.
West Indies Vs India Result: So on day 4 of first test match Shivnariane Chanderpaul and Dwayne Bravo were the key for West Indies. At the start of the play Chanderpaul and Bravo played some good shots and showed that they are likely to lay a long innings.
But just then like Praveen Kumar got into action and by removing Bravo and Chanderpaul in one over he delivered another pile-driver in the form of double strike like he did in the first innings. Chanderpaul made 30 runs in 73 balls with four boundaries whereas his partner Bravo made 41 runs in 89 balls with 7 fours.
Now West Indies was in deep trouble at 149/6. So far West Indies had not even started recovery from the loss of Chanderpaul and Bravo when Harbhajan Singh also jolted West Indies in the form of Carlton Baugh on 0.
Now only a formality was left to be completed in order to win the first test match. After the departure of Chanderpaul and Bravo West Indies Skipper Darren Sammy played brisk innings of 25 runs with 3 fours and 1 six in just 11 balls along with Ravi Rampaul and threatened Indian team little-bit.
But soon Amit Mishra’s double strike in the form of Darren Sammy and BP Nash ended the last emerging hope also for West Indies. At the total of 223 runs West Indies lost another wicket in the form of Ravi Rampaul who made brilliant 34 runs in 32 balls with 6 fours and 1 six.
For West Indies no one could cross even 50 runs. The highest scorer in the second innings was Dwayne Bravo who made 41 runs. On the other hand Indian bowlers really bowled well and kept their cool. For Indian team Praveen Kumar and Ishant Sharma bowled well and claimed 3 wickets each.
But above all Praveen Kumar was exceptionally great through out the test match with ball and bat. In the first innings he registered impressive figures of 18-5-38-3 and in the second innings his figures of 16-3-42-3 and 28 runs at crucial juncture in the second innings testify loudly about his indispensable contribution in this great victory of team India.
Apart from this Amit MIshra also got 2 wickets and Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Snigh also got 1 each. In this way West Indies got bundled out at 262 runs and team India won by 63 runs. Now Team India Leads the Test Series by 1-0.
For playing a wonder knock of 112 runs under immense pressure The Wall of India Rahul Dravid received Man of The Match Award.
