Ind vs Nz
The tri-series featuring India, Sri Lanka and New Zealand in Sri Lanka shall begin today with the first one dayer being played between the two visitor nations. India unfortunately is getting back from a busy schedule after the last test against Lanka being played just three days back.
New Zealand on the other hand had been well rested and is entering the ground after a couple of practice games. Though India could manage very little time for net practice, the team seems to have benefited from their previous stints at Dambulla. Both teams lack several key players, but India seems to have emerged as the advantageous one.
New Zealand coach Mark Greatbatch has justified the absence of crucial players – “It is an opportunity for them [Daniel Vettori and Brendon McCullum] to spend some time with their families. They will come back fresh and strong, it has turned out to be a positive thing for them and for the youngsters as wellâ€- said the coach.
Dhoni, the Indian skipper meanwhile remained a bit skeptical regarding his team tight schedules – “The amount of games we are playing, it is very important to switch off from cricket because 365 days in a year, you can’t be thinking only about cricket” – remarked the captain.
Talking about the prospective performers, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik, and Virat Kohli will get the opportunity to establish their worth for the Indian side. Abhimanyu Mithun shall replace Ishant Sharma in the first match who is ruled out due to injury.
Ross Taylor is looked upon as the Kiwis’ trump card in batting while pacers like Daryl Tuffey and Kyle Mills will show off their bowling talents. The pitch is said to support batting during the day than under the lights, and therefore toss shall remain a crucial factor in determining the game’s outcome.
